Taken from UB40’s latest album, Bigga Baggariddim, “Show And Prove” is a collaboration with rising Jamaican star Leno Banton.
An album of reggae collaborations with artists spanning four continents and seven decades of recording experience, featuring House of Shem, Tippa Irie, BLVK H3RO, Inner Circle, Pablo Rider, KIOKO, Gilly G, Slinger, Winston Francis, Leno Banton and General Zooz (Reggae Rajahs)
Reggae music is truly international but it’s also still very much alive and well in its Jamaican homeland where a new generation of stars has emerged in the past decade. Leno Banton is one of those emerging stars. UB40’s management discovered Leno on BBC Radio and invited him to contribute to the band’s 2021 release Bigga Baggariddim. After the rising Jamaican star added his consciously hard-hitting lyrics and vocals over UB40’s riddim, “Show And Prove” quickly became one of the favourites on the critically acclaimed album.
Leno Banton is the son of Burro Banton a star deejay of the 80s and 90’s Reggae-Dancehall era. Performing his father’s smash hit “Boom Wah Dis” at a tender age would later inspire the budding singer to explore his own vocal talents. The result produced a modern infusion of traditional reggae-dancehall flair with a more youthful Hip Hop exuberance. Inheriting his father’s prowess on the mic, the 25-year-old is undeniably gifted as a creative force in Jamaica’s music.
The video was shot on location in Jamaica, at New Haven in Duhaney Park, St. Andrew and in Clarendon.
