the daily express is owned by richard [dirty] desmond.

a couple of years back the newspaper was involved in negotiations with a german company.

desmond doesn't like germans, so during the meeting, he put two fingers to his top lip [like a hitler moustache], and goose stepped up and down the boardroom zeig heil' ing until the germans were so offended, they left the meeting.

desmond is a little tin-pot nazi himself.

he hates foreigners, and women [who are just objects for him to make money on his 'television X' channel that he owns], and just about everyone who isn't a middle-aged white anglo-saxon male [even though that makes him german too].

I'm only saying this because the british press is run by people like desmond who try to manipulate public opinion to fit to their own extreme right wing agenda.

they are using the current crisis in europe to try and get rid of the human rights act, so that bosses like him can have a compliant workforce.

I would vote to stay IN the EU, just to spite him.

I voted to stay in too Jimmy.Judging by the number of votes it doesn't seem to be as hot a topic as people like Desmond are making out.

Good question Nani.Overall I would say yes. There are serious questions as to whether the EU is democratically accountable but the only way to get things changed is to get fully involved and not sulk on the sidelines like the UK conservative party.

exactly tom.
No-one ever mentions the benefits of the EU. There are quite a few cities, including brum, that have benefitted from the EU regeneration fund. But don't let that get in the way of bashing foreigners.

It should be remembered that, historically, most of the top EU countries are more socialist than britain. While we had maggie destroying unions and workers rights, germany and france and holland etc were building there society around the need for better conditions and pay for their workers.

One of the reasons that germany has a more healthy economy than most other countries is because there society has been built around the needs of their workers, who are represented in the boardroom, influence government decisions, and even sit on the executive remuneration committees.

The french, who like to spend time with there families rather than on the factory floor, had the shortest working hours in the EU. And their welfare state is much more generous than britains, there schools and hospitals are much better than here.

that's why so many of the rules and regulations in coming from the EU are to try and prevent unscrupulous employees from exploiting there workers. Health and safety rules are there to protect the working conditions of people who would otherwise be little more than slaves.

I don't get it.

why a working man [or woman] would stand shoulder to shoulder with the tories in trying to repeal the human rights act is a mystery to me. I can only think that they believe the right-wing propaganda spewed out by reactionary press.

we need europe as a civilizing influence in this country.

otherwise the right-wing business community and the reactionary newspaper owners would have us all be SLAVES.

we need MORE regulation, not less.

some things are good JB, alot of it is bull. Take the three legged race or the sack race, the egg and spoon race... all been banned under "Health and safety" for the good of the community?? wtf when we were kids did it ruin us to have an egg and spoon race? no, did you ever hear of anyone poking there eye out doing it? no.

alot of the rules they spill out are nonsense and not here to help us but to hinder growing up. if they keep going it wont be safe to go out or infact stay in doors because no matter what you do you would be in danger of doing something to yourself.

Maggie screwed this country big time and the ones that have followed in her footsteps have and are doing the same. as for the businesses well they want us all to do more work for less... thats business and making the rich richer and the poor poorer.
the miniumum wage is a good idea in principle, however in europe its cheaper to live therefore the limit on minimum wage is less than feesable here in the uk. it needs to be at least £1.50 ph higher for anyone to get a decent living from it.

The human rights people didnt help me when i was being screwed by our government (CSA) and told me to speak to my local MP who told me yes the amount you pay is rather high... now go away and pay it. which for 19 years i had to. even when i lost my job they wouldnt reasess it.... saying "we only reasess once a year, come back in 6 months".
but go all out to help convicted criminals to be able to vote, or to make claims against the british tax payers for having to share a cell with someone else or for falling out of bed....

i havent seen the human rights bill working for normal everyday people like me.

What we NEED is a government answererable to the people and not the people answerable to the government.

i hear what you are saying ani. and obviously, I can't argue against your perspective because these things happened to you, not me.

I can only say that there is a lot of propaganda printed in the newspapers that turn out to be untrue.

remember this little gem from tom ??
