So you must be happy to have your tax cut to 45p then.

Art house will always struggle as it wont be shown on the same amount of screens and generally have a more specialised subject matter that wont be to everyones tastes so will limit audience appeal. The budgets are usually tight and distribution is hard to find, these films although highly regarded for their "art" will always remain just that "art" and usually only get made by a director who isnt interested in commercial appeal.
Commercial means made for gain - but it doesn't always work out - Waterworld anyone?

Sorry Rat, Waterworld broke even eventually. I read an article in the newspaper about "turkeys" and it mentioned that film, it said the film lost loads, but the spin offs, merchandise, video games and TV rights meant it actually broke even in the end.

I think it's very wrong for anyone who earns over £150,000 pa to have their tax reduced in today's economic climate. There are a lot of well-off people who are against this latest Tory reduction in the top rate of tax, it's just that they aren't among the donors to the Tory party.

The Turbulent Story of Waterworld - UGO.com
It broke even therefore it didn't make a profit (and it was the swag and franchising that helped it recover not the film) so what I say still stands.

or can't you do joined-up thinking?

Be big enough to know when you get it wrong rodent.

You used waterworld as an example of a movie that lost money. Waterworld DIDN'T lose money. So you were wrong.

Stop trying so hard to catch me out drummer.

It was stated that commercial meant profitable. I gave Waterworld as an example of a big budget typical general release movie that wasn't.

Since when are businesses happy with "break even"?

Now kindly do not accuse me of being wrong when you clearly are yourself as it does your credibility no good at all.

(I'm guessing that a back stage meet n greet and a gig comp. is a long shot?)

Oh Mr. Ratcatcher, stop being so antagonistic, you're driving everyone crazy with your convoluted "gotcha" moments......you're sucking the air out of this place. Why can't you try to just have a pleasant conversation with people instead of being so damned argumentative. who knows, we might find you to be highly entertaining and humorous, and dare I say, enjoyable to engage with.
