Default UB40 - the card

Just wondering how many actually had to fill in or possessed a UB40 card, I Had to many moons ago, i had only left school and hated queing up to to the signing on thing.

Yeah I had one ... more than once. The labour exchange. I used to wonder why it was called that?

At the time i had mine, i never gave it a thought either. Can you remember when you used to get cheeper entry to things when you had one, OAPS/Kids/UB40, now you get nowt for nowt

I had one as did a lot of my mates.I grew up in Small Heath Birmingham
very similar area to the lads Balsall Heath area.
The only good thing about having it was you used to get into a few council owned places for free like Gym's, swimming pools etc.
'passport to leasure' they called it.

You can still get into a lot those places three or so much knocked off with a lesure key isued by the DHSS.

i had one aswell ( ub40 card ) it was green back then circa 1987 ish , in swindon they gave you a " gold card " u could get cheap bus rides swiming ice skating
and cut price food in some cafes on certin days . i think you could get in to swindon town half price aswell . . . why would you want to ?

In the early 80's I went down to fill out the paperwork to sign on, when I got home I'd been offered a job from an interview I'd had a few days earlier. Thankfully I never had to sign on.
