This weeks story in the mercury:
Former UB40 star Ali Campbell declared bankrupt
Oct 23 2011 by Jonny Greatrex, Sunday Mercury

FORMER UB40 singer Ali Campbell has been declared bankrupt, the Sunday Mercury can reveal.
Last week we told how four of his former bandmates had been hit by bankruptcy proceedings at Birmingham County Court.
But it has now emerged that Ali, 52, faced the same damaging legal action at Bournemouth County Court in June.

He quit the former chart-toppers in 2008 as the group faced financial disaster, despite selling an astonishing 70 million records worldwide.
Both sides later blamed each other for squandering money made from countless hit singles and albums.
The bitter war of words has continued since we revealed sax player Brian Travers, drummer Jimmy Brown, trumpeter Terence Oswald and percussionist Norman Hassan had gone bankrupt.
On UB40’s official website a post by a ‘band member’ said: “The financial difficulties were as a result of our singer leaving.
“It caused us to lose several million pounds worth of work and this had a knock-on effect of creating a black hole that the band have been working to drag themselves out of.”
Ali Campbell has previously claimed he tried to warn his ex-bandmates about the approaching financial disaster before their record company, DEP International, went into liquidation in 2008
He had said: “Why weren’t the other guys listening to me when I started to flag these money problems up?
“They decided to back the management and not me, I’m still very bitter about it.
“UB40 have been asset-stripped by the people around them.”
Opposing fans have also weighed into the argument on web forums.

One UB40 supporter wrote: “How incredibly disingenuous of Ali not to mention his own bankruptcy.
“Someone needs to remind him that he can’t rewrite history, as much as he would like to.”
But on Ali’s site one of his dedicated fans backed his choice to go it alone.
They wrote: “I wish you all the best Ali. Keep making good reggae music and show the world that you made the right choice quitting UB40 and going solo.”
UB40 were formed in 1978 by seven unemployed friends, including Ali and brother Robin, who remains in the group.
Their biggest hit was a cover of Neil Diamond’s Red Red Wine, which topped the charts in 1983.
They had further success with a version of I Got You Babe in 1985 and I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You in 1993.
Other top tens included One In Ten in 1981, Don’t Break My Heart in 1985 and 1990 hit Kingston Town.
UB40 also enjoyed two huge number one albums in the UK; Labour of Love in 1983 and 1993’s Promises and Lies.
Their last appearance in the charts was in 2005 with Kiss and Say Goodbye. Last year the group embarked on a 30th anniversary tour, playing the venues they gigged at during their early years.

Lazy reporting again.Ali didn't face the same action,it was a different case entirely.

And they quote Jimmy from this site calling him "a band member" giving the impression he was trying to conceal his identity.Considering there's a pic of Jimmy and his username is JB40 it shouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to attribute the quotes correctly.

My thoughts exactly tom.

they got some important details wrong again. And the fact that our ex-singer had been made bankrupt by his own bank [nothing to do with dep] is one of the most important, because it proves that his spending was out of control. that's why we told our management NOT to keep bailing him out every time he got himself into financial difficulties. that was when he said 'I can earn 10 times more without you lot', and left the band.

looks like his efforts to peddle his one-sided story is backfiring now.
