Spam Attack!!!

We've gone from about 300 active members to just under 5000 in a week.I know the Astro news brought a lot of people back but there seems to be no end of people joining with usernames that would generate great scores in a game of Polish scrabble.

Very strange.

It seems we have 1 or 2 spammers using some known forum spamming software to try and fill the forums full or adverts.

We've tried using recaptcha but seems they can get past that too so I've added some new signup questions and extra fields for them to fill out as a requirement. I've also added a new "newbies corner" forum that is the only place new members can post (as well as the help forum).

Currently removing all the new users so hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

I did put a post up on GA a few weeks ago about there seeming to be a lot of spammers joining......hope you manage to get it sorted Ash

Well you always get spam but have a look at these signup stats, it really has gone mad over the last few days!







I'd say this is 1 person or a small group of people in china, they seem to putting up fake webpages & redirects on exploited websites and linking them back to sites selling ugg boots and handbags - these sites are probably fake and anyone that buys from them will have there credit card details stolen too. It's actually quite impressive how far they've gone to set this up.

I've already made a few phone calls this afternoon all over the world to companies that have no idea their websites have been hacked.

Tom...why are you setting up all these different profiles? You know you're going to get caught!! But until you get caught...if you want to share any of the profits from all those nicked credit card numbers, we could do some "offshore" Canadian banking...just don't tell anyone...
