Default Lockerbie.

Anyone with more than a passing interest in the case will know there are many questions about safety of the conviction against Al Megrahi. Even some of the victims families, especially in Britain, believe it's a stitch-up.
According to several sources, the real bombers were Syrrian. It was the American obsession with Libya that made them focus on Gadaffi. Applying sanctions on Libya, preventing them from taking part in international trade.
I don't know why Megrahi was the scapegoat. But I do know that Gadaffi made the calculation that it would be more expensive to suffer sanctions than it would be to make a bogus confession and offer up Megrahi as a sacrifice. And offered the families of the victims compensation. He was connected to the Pan Am flight but only as a passenger.
Now Megrahi has given up his fight to prove his innocence so he can die at home [he has terminal cancer]. Even though he has been fighting to clear his name since the conviction.
And the American Government are trying to prevent Megrahi dying at home.
This is an obscene piece of Realpolitik, Innocent people sacrificed in the name of global trade.
What an uncivilized world we live in.

i remember seeing a documentary about it not so long ago..it raised all sorts of questions...after all this time..the families must really just want to know the truth...
I think they managed to get an interview with Gadaffi's son..who seems to be a chip off the old block...

Don't know much about Lockerbie atleast not all of the facts.
Its been a while ago.
Strange things happened do remember that.
Terrible, if it is true that he was innocent.
Is he in an american jail??? Can't figure that out in your post.

Last week a big story in the newspaper over here that Ronals Biggs, got out of jail, because he is sick.
That is beyond believe imho, guilty as hell, had a good live abroad, and when he got sick he wanted back to the UK.

It is a crazy world

The difference being Paula that Biggs was guilty of being involved in the train robbery. Can't comment about Lockerbie til I refresh my memory. I remember the air crash of course, but not much about the trial or Al Megrahi being a scapegoat.

Megrahi is in jail in Britain Paula.

Biggs was only a get-away driver. He was also jailed for several years before he escaped. Biggs is nearing the end of his life. He wasn't violent. He didn't mug anyone. Jack Straw, the British Home Secretary, is a worm for refusing the application for Biggs to die in hospital with his family around him.

Yes JB I have been following this, and several American senators are protesting about his imminent release.
As you say I do think he was the ''Patsy'' in US slang,
Some of the families of the victims want him released.
I do underatnd that most of them want some sort of recourse, but the thing stinks and this poor bloke seems to be doing the penance for somebody else's doing

He got away with a lot of money, didn't he?
He was involved in the crime, so agains the law!!!!!!
I mean come on Jim....as long as I don't kill or hurt someone, I should get out of jail as soon as I am sick.
Sounds wrong to me.

Can America stop, the proces of getting Megrahi out of Jail???

Not sick Paula. Dying.
He did several years in jail, and the rest of his life was spent in exile.
It takes a cold heart to refuse a dying person their last wish.

It was a Pan Am plane Paula so I guess they think they have a reason to object. Not saying I agree with this before anyone jumps down my throat.

I can understand the families not wanting him released, but only if he did do the crime
