TOUCH FM, has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the Live Earth music concert series for Ugandan radio audiences come July 7.

Live Earth is a 24-hour six-continent series of nine concerts that will bring together more than 100 artistes and two billion people to inspire a global movement to "Answer the Call" to combat the climate crisis.

The movement will be urging the masses to protect the environment as a way of preventing the depletion of the ozone layer.

This is a layer that absorbs most of the sun's ultraviolet radiation, which could be destroyed as humans engage in activities like excessive burning.

Artistes like Alicia Keys, Akon, India Arie, James blunt, Lincoln Pack, Shakira and UB40 will gather at respective destinations on the six continents.

Touch FM will have a 24-hour broadcast of the live music as the concerts go on in South Africa, New York, Germany, Brazil and Australia.

Franco Baitwa, the station manager, says this is a rare opportunity for Ugandans to join a worldwide audience for a monumental and historic international event by tuning in to Touch FM.

Live Earth will be marking the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection, The Climate Group and other international organisations.

The former US vice-president, Al Gore, heads the the alliance and Partner of Live Earth.

Live Earth was founded by Kevin Wall, the worldwide executive producer of Live 8, an event that brought together one of the largest audiences in history to combat poverty.

Wall formed a partnership with Al Gore and the Alliance for Climate Protection to ensure that Live Earth inspires behavioural change long after the launch.
