Default Liverpool - the 'proper' cathedral gig (so Kathie tells me)

It's been so long since I wrote a decent length review this one will either spontaneously combust or go on for days, so be warned folks!

I was always going to this one. I like Liverpool, can't say I've ever had a bad time in the city and I'd never seen the cathedral, so - a no brainer. When I read about Astrogate on Friday at work I was as shocked/surprised as the next person but it gave me added drive to venture out on a gig trek.

As the cathedral was open to the public during the day I made my way up there in the afternoon, and decided to stay after climbing the almighty (!) hill. Spotted Marg and we soon headed inside. Well, what an amazing building. I'm in no way religious but - wow - what architecture. Had a nosey round, checked out the stage area and we were soon joined by Janey and her friend Sally - not sure what she made of us Loonies

It was much warmer inside so we stayed in there for the rest of the afternoon and we were nattering by the stage when this bunch of blokes turned up - some reggae band they said

I'm not sure how often the guys have to soundcheck with the general public/hoi polloi watching but we certainly enjoyed it, until it was time for everyone to be politely slung out to wait for an hour in the cold. I didn't catch up with anywhere near all the Loonies in the building but I know there was a strong contingent, along with a highly enthusiastic non Loonie crowd.

I still can't remember the name of the support act but she kept us entertained until the boys took the stage around 9.30. They tricked us with the first line of Here I Am Baby then launched straight into Keep on Movin'. Haven't heard that one in way too long and it set the tone for a cracking rejigged set. We were treated to a few GOTS tracks which sounded far better live than on CD in my humble opinion - yours may vary and a fine appearance by our Norman back behind the bongos and in good voice.

I don't think I've danced as much in ages, so much so that the camera really didn't get much of a look in at all, but last night it was all about the music and supporting the band with whoops, arm waving and general silliness abounding. There were smiles all over the audience and on the band members' faces too. A triumph in every sense of the word. Anyone who doubts their collective strength, I'd suggest buying a ticket for the March/April shows before you say another word.

Merci mon ami Oh Bruno I seriously have to re-look at the tour dates now. I'd satisfied myself with London and Brum but.. too much arm twisting
