Default Birmingham gig review

PICS NOW ADDED TO PAGE 2

What a brilliant day yesterday.

After queing in the literally freezing cold they finally let us in and all the loonies secured their rightful places on the front row. In fact I couldn’t see anyone that wasn’t a loonie at the barrier from where I was. Lovely to see faces I haven’t seen in a while and also to meet Gail for the first time ever.

After what seemed like an endless wait the lights went down and I saw eddie for the first time. I had missed him in Liverpool so was looking forward to last night. Unfortunately though he had just been diagnosed with laryngitis (or however you spell it. Fi?), so the poor thing had to croak his way through just 3 songs. It was still a great show though and really enjoyed singing along – I didn’t think I would know any of his stuff but ironically knew all 3 songs. BIG respect to him for going through with it though. Anyone else would have cancelled.

Then it was finally time for UB40. Well what can I say, other than….it was just fabulous. I danced all the way through. Dunno if it was because it was Birmingham but there seemed like a really special vibe to it. The whole arena was packed and buzzing. Everyone seemed to be loving it and everyone on the tiers were up dancing. It was wonderful to see such an atmosphere like that. Easy Snapping and Boom Shacka were both favourites of the night. The staff were surprisingly good and were quick to evict an unwanted drunk woman that decided to come and annoy us all. It was all over too quickly and the lights came on and all the loonies had a catch up, with yet more old faces that I haven’t seen for ages. The stewards were quick to evict us from the arena though. Had a few drinks after although of the non alcoholic type as I was driving. Not sure what time I got home but it was really late so I went straight to bed before getting back up at 6:30 this morning eek.

Now sitting at work on my last day before I finish for x-mas so feeling all festive. Have a Christmas party tonight so need to wake myself up for that.

I have a few pics and will pop em up later

Was a great night Hels, felt so sorry for Eddy. The Birmingham crowd were the only ones not to hear how good he was. He's a great entertainer and credit to him for coming out and giving us the chance to sing his songs.
