We've really been enjoying working on brand new material. It so nice not to have other versions to restrict us. Dunc has surpassed himself, and we've been playing to his strengths by keeping the tunes soulful because that is where he is best suited.
The plan is to record two album's worth of material and whittle it down to one. That way we use only the best tracks. We are about half way through the demo stage with 12 songs in the can.
We shouldn't forget Tony's contribution either. His familiarity with chord structures [whatever they are] means we can work a lot quicker than we did in the old days. That keeps the vibe fresh.
All in all a very satisfying first week of writing new material. By the end of next week we should be able to go on to the next stage which will be over-dubs and arrangements.
it's all good.
