Where do I begin? First of all, I just wanted to thank the band, management, and crew, that UB40 has once again come to my home city. Held at the Depot, the old Union Pacific Railroad station, the concert very much had the feel of the House of Blues, in both size and layout. The main floor was packed, and most of the balcony was filled.

I was situated in front with my wife Jennifer. Early on in the show, Brian, in his cordial way, tossed a water bottle to me. And when the brass section came forward, we got the full blast of the direct sound.

One real treat, one that I did not expect and has been kept a secret as far as I know, is that some of the Signing Off tracks were played, in their original arrangement. I wont tell you which ones though; you will have to go to the gigs to find that out. But I assumed we would have to wait til the European shows to get to hear them. So thanx guys, for giving us a preview. I only got hooked on UB40 in 1986, when I was 13, so I never have heard much of the previous stuff live. But last night, I got to hear some of the songs that I have always wanted to hear live.

I have always been impressed by the bands interaction with the crowd during the shows. One case was during a song that Norman was not doing much on his bongos, and was motioning to Jenn and me that he was playing the "air bongos" as the song (from Signing Off) didnt call for them to be played, then shrugged his shoulders, and waited for the next song to start, so he could play for real again. Dunx in full form and really got the girls going with "Homly Girl," reaching out to the crowd and holding a view hands. Jimmy was locked on his drum set, so not much crowd interaction during the show; anarchist. To his credit, he did strike a pose, to gesture the band to come back on stage for the encore. And hats off to Pikey, who really can not dance, still tried to anyway. But put a sax in his hands and we were back in business.

As for Robins jumpers, Gail aught to know that while he does wear long sleeved shirts, and while it can get quite hot on stage, that they, the faux jumpers, are still thin and do breath easily. So that man does not suffer greatly on stage.

After the show, Jenn and I caught up with the band out at the buses. Rob was the most brave by enduring the less dispursed crowd, and even fit in a couple of snap shots with some less than sober Utah residents. Lets just say that many hugs and "I love you"s were given out. Dunx was greacious as well at signing a few autographs for a few of the fans. With the lack of a suitable hard surface to write on, Dunc asked if he could use my back to sign a fans paper. The pen kept going though the paper, so I suppose I got his autograph on my shirt as well. Last of all, Jenn gave Brian his long overdue hug. He is such a gentleman. He then gave us his towel. So here's a question for Brian: What calogne do you wear? It's nice.

All-in-all, another great show was delivered, and I am so thankful to the UB40 machine for including Salt Lake City in their list of venues. Cheers all.

Til we meet again.
