Nothing really lol, just that it's a village built around the slate quarry industry, a bit like a coal mining village, but I do beleive that they love their music  so should be good

One word describes Blaenau Ffestiniog.Grey.It used to be centre of thr Welsh slate industry so all the houses have grey slate rooves, the surrounding mountains are covered in grey spoil from the quarries and has more rain than any other place in Wales so the sky is nearly always grey as well.Apart from that it's great.

Really grey Fi, it also has a huge boulder of slate balanced over one part  held up by steel mesh  wouldn't like to have my house directly underneath it personally
But it's pretty lively, very close knit community and I hear they have some good pubs there :razz:

Just out of intrest!!

Blaenau Ffestiniog.......

"Pawb yn deud bod hi'n bwrw glaw Ym Mlaenau ...Ffestiniog, ond wir i chi Mae hi ohyn yn braf ym Mlaenau Ffestiniog"

A quote form one of the Towns most popular reggae/ funk bands & only one out of 12 + rock & alternative music scene bands in the Town. It translates to ďEverybody says it rains in Blaenau, but honestly itís always sunny in Blaenau!!". The band teases with their Home Towns reputation for being rainy (3rd most rainy place in Britain!), but also states that even though it rains, the people and the 'craik' or 'buzz' within this environment has a very happy vibe. BUT, it isnít there in your face & ready to welcome you with open arms with a greeting in the English Language... (Like many tourist traps in Snowdonia and Wales these days!) ....ohhhhhh no, you've got to go look for it, mix with the locals, challenge your self to greet them in their own language and so on....Blaenau Ffestiniog is a true Wales...undeveloped and real it gives a true meaning to the term "off-the-beaten path"!

Blaenau Ffestiniog is the Centre or Hub to a much wider Bro (region) dubbed as Bro Ffestiniog, which includes: Tanygrisiau, Manod, Llan Ffestiniog, Cwm Cynfal, and Cwm Teigil & Trawsfynydd. The Bro Ffestiniog has so much to offer from an ever changing Landscape from flowing valleys and forests to ragged mountains with lakes and rivers & all within easy reach with quality transport links. Blaenau as a Town is fairly new 1800's.... but Bro Ffestiniog has a very old history with Folklore of the Welsh Celtic mabinogi, Celtic settlements (latter used by Romans, don't be fooled by things dubbed as Roman!!) to more far out Folklore of a man who sold Tobacco to the Devil but tricked him into smoking a gun barrel!!

Blaenau Ffestiniog is an Urban Post Industrial Slate Mining Town positioned right bang in the middle of a beautiful rural setting. The contrast of the Man V's Nature Landscape is 'jaw dropping'... from a beautiful luscious green vegetation Valley to a rugged purple colored rock -ragged mountain, to a million tone slate waist tip which looks like an ancient monument of Machu Pichu .....Honestly you won't see this kind of contrast any where else!

Here you can see various industrial architecture just by taking a walk off the roads...for free! All you need is a map, a rain coat and some wellies.... or you can hire a mountain bike form the tourist centre and go about you travels on wheels.

There are numerous M.L trained guides that can take you out on Mountain treks or even low level walks or Nordic walking.

So....any how. When your 'vet done your day activities what about nighttime:

One of the main Local hot spots for food is Bistro Moelwyn or Caffi Pont yr Afon Gam - their menu boasts all local products.

Music....well there is plenty of music here, but you've got to look for it, most advertising is done by word of mouth or via tiny posters in shop windows! ...Check out The Queens Hotel to see whatís going down or pop over to 'Cell - Music Centre' (based at the Old police Station...the old cells still remain in tact!).

Accommodation - At present there are only 60 beds in the Town in various locations but things are on the up. Also these accommodations come highly recommended: Bryn Elltyd Guest House & Cae Du Mountainside farmhouse and Capel Pisgha.

Here are a phew sites to get ya on your way:
