A Sunday theme...........songs of praise maybe

If you were to choose 1 song to be an ANTHEM (a song of devotion / loyalty ) to ub40- which one would it be?

I'm thinking along the lines of a UB40 track that would -
- sum up what ub40 stand for
- celebrate how much their music means to us

Not necessarely the most popular song either..........a track that everyone with one voice would seem fitting to sing unitedly.........

it would give school assembleys another edge if they added it to their hymn sheet along with their favorite footy team anthems too........my way of thinking

Sing our Own Song.

Not one of my favs, but sums them up for me. They have always done their own thing, done what they wanted, what they believed in.

Has to be sing our own song.
Not the boys biggest world wide hit.
but it is a song that relates to a piece of history.
A TRUE UB40 ANTHEM.

Hi Nic......I think DON'T LET IT PASS U BY would be a PERFECT choice, I've changed me mind, sorry! :bigwink: btw.....did you know that back in 1981, a vicar told his congregation NOT to buy UB40 songs because of the lyrics in DLIPYB? :ooh: I think that organised religions would rather dogmatically convince their followers that the power's in the hands of the priesthood, and not within themselves.

The fear and guilt tripping is what they use to entrap people.

Even tho it isn't nominated, I think I WON'T CLOSE MY EYES sums up the band.

By the way, we are playing in Huddersfield on the 26th of August at Bar 120.......and we may POSSIBLY be performing at Bar Amour in Hudds on April 29th. We've been offered two dates at the same venue in May. I'm just waiting on whether me bruvs are free schedule-wise, and I'll confirm and give you the details. Rest assured, this isn't a "ruffneck" affair! Hope you and Keith can come down.

Whoever it was that voted for I can't help falling in love :laff: :laff: :laff: :laff: sorry :haha:

I couldn't choose between FFT, One in ten, Sing our own song and DLIPYB (sigh) but I went for One in ten, because it has always been that way and prob always will be. But that goes for the other songs too, oh I hate these choices

Maybe we could make a medley :laff: :laff:

 Is that really true?........... Emotional blackmail if you ask me -purely to instill power & take control.

when I made the list Imani it was about 20 songs so I had to eliminate some way or another -but I agree IWCME is a definate contendor so I may do another poll after a little thought.

Cheers for the update- good to hear you & your bros are still making music. I'd really like to come along so please send us a little reminder when it's near the time. My son Aiden & his band have played there a few times- It's a nice cosy place & they've recently made a small platform stage which is better. BTW me & Keith met in the same venue new years eve 1980- back then it was called the Albion & we use to have a punk & reggae resident DJ named Spike ! thOse were the days

tAke care- Nicola x

Aw that's nice to know, you and Keith first meeting there, and now Aiden's bands played there..... Obviously the place will have a certain resonance for you all.

Yes, I read that about DLIPYB in Record Mirror or Melody Maker in '81.......and I imagine that the vicar didn't get that much opposition that sunday morning. ....nowadays it'd be different (I hope!). Thing is, any open minded religious leader would see no contradiction in the UB lyric and their beliefs.

I'll deffo let you know.
