I've read in a couple of interviews that Robin has got really annoyed 'cause Ali has sung the words Robin has written in such a way that no one can understand them!!!

eg Ivory Madonna was misheard as I, Marie and Donna http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif

I think that all the years of recording and touring is taking it's affect on Ali's voice.
So, it's just a sign of a veteran singer.

Ali's voice certainly sounds different to 20 years ago but still sounds fabulous and unique. Live he certainly has good days and bad though (Holly Holy on The National Lottery Show being a bad one). Fortunately most of the time he sounds awesome.

I think I heard once that Ali isn't one for warming his voice up properly before singing that's why the first song he sings in concerts or when as Robert said he sings one song live it always sounds a bit rough, at least we know he isn't miming http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif His voice definately has changed over the years but I think because we are all big fans we tend to notice smaller changes more, still sounds as great as ever though http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ive been saying for a while now he has definately gone more course. But unless he belts out Many Rivers ,Earth dies screaming or at least some of the earlier stuff i suppose we will never really know.I think Ali sounds a bit rough singing I love it when you smile but then he will do Cant help falling brillintly.
Ali is unique as long as he does;'nt lose it completely.
Still the best vocalist this Country has seen
Long may it continue

That's normal in a veteran singer, take this other example: Air Supply lead singer, Russell Hitchcock, his voice sounds good but not as 20 years ago. http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I agree were all ub40 for one thing & thats the love of the music.Ali,s voice is bound to have changed.None of us sound the same as we did 20 years ago & we wont sound the same as we do now in another 20 years-even though I admit maybe he could lose the gum while singing!!!!

I have and will always know that Ali has one of the most distinctive voices in all of reggae music. I've only heard some inconsistencies in a few t.v. appearances. But all the times I've seen them live, He sings like an angel. I'm happy to see how his voice has matured, as well as their music. My God, just listen to his amazing vocals on the Guns in the Ghetto album. Listen to his vocals on the live versions of King and Tyler on the Train Is Coming cd single. I didn't think I would, but I even love his vocals on the Light My Fire remake. I'm surprised that doesn't get airplay in the U.S. like it should. Sorry for writing too much, but I strongly believe that in the studio or in concert, the man, just like the band will deliver!!!!!!! Peace.

okay I also give my opinion. I think in the beginning he sounded not as good as he sounds now. I think he has a more grown up voice and he sounds soooooo very good now. This doesn't mean I dont like his old songs but to me he just sounds much better

I think that Ali's voice is just the best.... maybe it is slightly different to 20 odd years ago, but he it still the man with the golden voice, and theres no-one on the planet that can sing like him.... he is totally unique, totally sexy, totally gorgeous and part of the best band in history and UB40 wouldnt be UB40 without him. Long live the UB's.

interesting debate......well 21 yrs ago ali was 21 yrs old.....so he sounded like a 21 yr old...but he is,in my humble opinion, one of the best singers in the world...totally honest in his expression...he has very high standards that baffle us sometimes...i love the fact that he wants to work hard after all these yrs.....truth is music...reggae music is probabaly the only thing he gets excited about....he has sung some beautiful songs on our new album....i hope you will all agree..
