A UB40 DVD is on it's way and should be released around June 2001, let us know what songs/videos you would like to see included.

For me it would be live recordings and studio footage but if we are talking about just song videos then just all the singles, make it like a two CD set, first to come out in June, another one around Christmas. First DVD all, I MEAN ALL, song videos made by UB40. Part II, the rest of them ALL until their latest which then might be "Cover Up" http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif
Sort of like a "UB40, THE SONG VIDEOS DVD" http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/bounce.gif

It would be nice to see the videos included that don't normally get an airing i.e Love is All is Alright, I won't Close My Eyes, Riddle Me, The Pillow, I got You Babe-was there a cartoon version?????, Holly Holy, Train is Coming. But it would need to also include all the Greatest Hits.
An idea for a limited edition could be a CD or DVD EP of the 4 Proms tracks.

As for most wanted songs I would like:
1. Don't blame me
2. I love it when you smile
3. Guns in the ghetto
4. Bring me your cup
4. Higher ground
5. Love is All is Alright
6. I think it's going to rain today
7. Guilty
8. Version girl
9. Piper calls the tune
(random order http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif )
As for specials I'd like:
- a special edition of Big Love sung by all the bandmembers
- the song 'Since I met you Lady' (slow reggae version off course http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif )
- bits and pieces of studio recordings

Eeeeeeeeeeh... you need more?? http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/lol.gif http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/laff.gif

just to reiterate...what we need are your suggestions/tracklists for a D.V.D. 'very best of' past videos from single releases for a movie compilation....thanks http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smokin.gif

It might be an idea also to add like a little documentary on the band on the DVDs showing how the band progressed throughout the years. Would also be great to add that clip of Adella from 1979 rehearsal and other unseen footage on the DVD http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif
As for song videos do also add the various versions of the songs as bonus features like all the versions of TELL ME IS IT TRUE, the USA version of WAY YOU DO and HIGHER GROUND. Would also love to see clips from the GUNS IN THE GHETTO album including BOTH versions of ALWAYS THERE (the video and "rejected" black backdrop version).

Oh, maybe as bonus footage you could have Virgin dig up their old commercials for TV! How about putting all of them in the right order on the DVD???

I have to agree with what most people are saying here, some sort of documentary would be good - how about doing a "very best of" but the songs played live from various, unseen perfomances.

ie - 1 in 10 but instead of the video, how about the live performance recorded in Hitchin in 1982, or an unseen live performance of Red Red Wine etc. It would mean that we still had the very best of, but from a different angle meaning we;re all getting rare stuff.

just a thought.

I would personally love it Brian, if this were to turn into a Series of DVD's...to have every single/track video on DVD would be brilliant. I have no preferences as to what I would like but I would love it if they were ALL eventually on DVD. Video's are great, but with lots of them and all the rewinding and fastforwarding to get to personal favourites, it would be just great if we could have them all at a touch of a button. I am a lazy loonie!! http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/wink.gif
Anyway good luck with the Virgin guy and at the end of the day.....it gets dark!! http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/earth.gif.....no at the end of the day, anything you do is fine with us, we are puppiedogs at your feet! http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/haha.gif

I too would love to see ALL the vids for ALL the singles.....I've collected loads over the years but have the odd one or two missing. It would also be great to have them without the TOTP or Chart Show graphics all over them.

A directors cut section with voice overs telling us what the song is about and which band members wrote the lyrics etc would be wicked.

Brian you could even include your magic trick http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

JorisJ

Great idea Adam, better yet do include a "local version" of the website on a DVD RAM section of the disc available to view on both PC and Mac. Palm Pictures did this with the SLY & ROBBIE DVD-video-single SUPERTRUSTER http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif

JorisJ

22nd February 2001, 08:39 PM
I agree joris...

taking it further though, it would give UB40 a chance to put screensavers & wallpaper and other stuff to download onto their computers.

JorisJ
22nd February 2001, 08:49 PM
In regards to putting the whole site online its best to have an adapted one on the DVD with no "NEWS" section (will outdate) and "COMPETITION" (people might buy dvd after closing date) and "MERCHANDISE" (as that might sell out and still be on the DVD web then). Just have some external links to the online site then.
Screensavers sound cool, but then also for Macintosh!! And how about Virgin converting all their UB40 press-releases into PDF files and putting them on the DVD? Virgin America and formerly A&M Records released a press-kit for each album with a nice picture of the band.

A lot of people have the 'best of' video so like everyone else has suggested some of the 'rarer' videos could be included, I think a little bit about the new albums due to be released later this year wouldn't go a miss it could bring some well deserved promotion for 'cover up' and 'fathers album'. Love is all vid is a must, and how about some digitally remastered versions of the early King/food for thought vids which always look a bit crackly on video http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif

BT/FAITH, make sure its a worldwide release so release a couple of DVD formats!!! So then we can ALL enjoy the DVD(s) in the best format for our TV systems http://www.demo3w.com/ubb/smile.gif

for Europe, PAL region 2
for USA/Canada, NTSC region 1
for rest of world, NTSC regions 3 to 6

and be sure to LABEL it well for which countries they are, formatting is very important. Also be sure that videos that are shot in WIDESCREEN (like REGGAE MUSIC) are also put on the DVD as widescreen (1.85 : 1 or 2.35 : 1).

Excellent plan. I am so glad that this is being done because UB40 song videos are rare to non-existent in Canada. Here in western Canada, the only UB40 song video I’ve ever seen is Red Red Wine on MuchMusic, our TV music channel. I have never seen ANY of the song videos listed or mentioned in any of the previous posts-—absolutely none of them.

I would like the DVD compilation to be comprised of ALL the ALBUM versions of the singles that were made into videos—-whether they be live performances or staged videos-—as long as they are of the singles on the albums. Any videos of singles that are extended versions and so on should be included as well but if priority and limitations are factors in this, my choice is to see the album versions released now and then a series of future DVD song video releases could cover any other versions/B-sides/extended mixes, etc. that were made. From the perspective of North America and the upcoming tour, I think focusing on the release of the videos of the singles off the regular albums will be better marketing strategy for getting public interest in the tour because those are the versions of the songs that people here would be more familiar with-—we don’t even get any B-side releases at all here in western Canada so putting out a DVD of a B-side/extended song video for example may not spark as much interest as someone seeing the regular video of Can’t Help Falling in Love for example (assuming there was one for that song). I can understand that in the rest of the world these videos would already have been in the public eye but that is not the case over here so I think Virgin needs to use marketing strategies that suit the different regions of the world. Also, I think a video of Light My Fire should definitely be included on this DVD since it’s the most recent release that people are hearing right now so they can make the connection in their minds and again it builds some enthusiasm for the tour in North America.

I like the idea of having short interview clips on the DVD as well but I think for this specific purpose it should just be a recent interview, not previous interviews--the interviews from previous times can be compiled on a "biography" kind of DVD as part of the future series--for this DVD to be released in June 2001, I think people need to see the band NOW and hear what they're saying NOW. On the DVD, there should be notations or images to indicate which album each single is taken from for newer fans that might want to search out the old albums.

Joris mentioned keeping the widescreen format for those videos done in widescreen and I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the correct thing here but for me, I actually prefer to see those widescreens reformatted for the TV screen because I find it's not as enjoyable watching the video/film when the picture is spread across the middle of the TV screen with the top and bottom portions of the screen blank....but I could get used to it just the same!

Great to see this project happening and I hope it’s just the beginning of even more release of UB40 productions here in North America because this continent has been void of UB40 videos all these years.

I must agree with Desperate. Here In the Usa I very rarely ever see a UB40 video. If I am ever lucky enough it is either Red REd Wine or Can't Help Falling In Love. I have a hard time finding any videos so this project has lit my fire. I think that this video should include interviews with all the bandmembers, rare videos along with some new ones...(I would love to see a video for The Pillow.) Some shot from concerts would be great also and I am not sure who started the idea but a series of DVD's would be awesome.
So I hope that this helps out a bit Brian and good luck with the guy from Virgin.

for me i'd love to see every video, uninterrupted, in full. it's so hard to get them that way. the "best of" while being entertaining didn't show the vids properly and if you tape them from mtv, etc you get writing across the screen or the beginning or end cut off. if this would make it a double dvd and virgin consider it would make it too expensive why not release a "very best of" with biggest hits at a lower price than the full catalogue and people could choose which one they want to buy ???? cheers, robert

SO, I may aswell just say "i agree" with virtually everything that's been said - all vids, uninterrupted (except those already on the "Best Of" vids - cos they can be done separately), back stage & studio & unseen footage, unseen concert footage, tour footage, some of Astro's recent movie clips, out takes from other vids, rare interviews, current interviews from band members and some of those involved (staff, crew etc) of how times have changed. oohhhhh can't wait, if this is the sort of thing you are going to produce?????????
