came into the back garden the other nite & dumped 3tons of topsoil on the grass

a potential landscaped elevation maybe for your back garden?....plonk in a couple of palm trees ......and you would have a little desert island

most likely explanation is an alien spaceship landed ...... I would go digging for wee green men if I was you ........
