has the band ever thought about doing a press release to say aldi's ub40 is no way linked to the original ub40 that are still touring and that duncan campbell is ub40's lead singer? think now would be good timing...

They don't need to get into the trenches Cwis, they have far too much class to brawl in public.

Chris UB40 haven't long finished a UK tour which went down rather well.
Anyone who gets mislead or whatever into buying a ticket blah blah will see that ali might be the same, but his band look nout like UB40 apart from mickey, neither do they sound like UB40...Isn't about time Ali explained his actions for a change ? if you get that.

Totally agree Chris they should end this and I do think that releasing a statement would help the cause, some people I have noticed say they should not do anything or they hav too much class but whAT good has that done?

We did this right back at the beginning three years ago chris. We were the ones that did the original press release saying aldi had left to pursue a solo career. And we did a two-page interview giving all the details.
I think aldi has deliberately tried to confuse things by claiming different scenario's at different times. If you remember he was claiming that he left because he couldn't get any answers from our management over finances. The threatened court action never happened of course because there was no truth in it. He even reported us to an industrial tribunal because he had no solicitors representing him [they went bust] because it was cheaper that way. But of course it all came to nothing.
Then with the release of his second solo effort he changed his story claiming that the reason he left was because of the unacceptable behavior of his bandmates [keeping things from him, buying reposessed houses etc]. Then he slated us for bringing signing off back, and that we hadn't made a good record since 2000.

The point I'm making here is that, no matter what we do, he keeps changing the goal posts. So any press announcement will only be countered with another wriggle. And we would be creating a public slanging match which we want to avoid. That's why we just carry on making our music the way we always have. We don't want to add fuel to the fire.
