I have same problem my main aortic valve leaking.had for 6yrs now.But lucky that my medication is keeping it at bay.i know someone who had the op,the worst your left with his the scar which will fade in time.first few days your not with it with the drugs they give you.then before you can come home they make you walk up a flight of steps and back down then if you can do that they let you home.i think its a week stay in hospital but depends on each person how they cope.Also once home you got to take things easy and no lifting anything big.Hope this helps you a little and good luck.

My nephew had to have one fitted when he was 18 months old, hes 4 and a half now and you wouldnt know hes had anything major done if his energy levels are anything to go by. The thing is I believe he has to have a further OP when hes about 21 but so far he lives a normal life and hes a mischevious little devil who regulary knackers me out twice a week.

thank you all for the prayers and good wishes ,thats pretty much what they told me at the hospital im sure ill be fine what there abel to manage now is unbelievable.Its came as no surprise to me. I was born with a hole in the heart and this will be my fourth large opp . So like mr claypole s nephew i had an opp at 2 years of age then again at 4 and 18 and i live a healthy active life .ive known for 20 years that i would need another but that dont make it any easer now the time is drawing ever closer
