I was lucky to see him last year at the Indig02 and he was in fine form and a total professional. He even did some tunes accappella as people were asking for certain songs and he said that they hadn't been rehearsed with the band. Total legend. I saw him again this year at the Indigo2 but his set was cut short due to his illness. Sir John Holt RIP

Robert Elms is doing a "4 for" on BBC Radio London between 13-00 and 13:30 today:

Some great comments on the Robert Elms show but he was and is universally loved. My brother was doing some work for a sound engineer at his house this week and he mentioned that he had worked with John Holt and what a gentleman he was. We have been very lucky to have his vocals on the Fathers album.

Would love to hear some UB40 related stories about him? I have heard one about him singing The Pillow down the phone when he was asked to perform it for the album.

I know he appeared on the Southbank doc but did the band record his vocals with their backing track to one of his songs? Would love to know

Best regards

Chronic

Sorry to hear this sad news. I know John Holt was a good friend to UB40, he will be sadly missed by the band and his fans.

The South Bank show recordings are owned by ITV. I think there have been attempts to get them released in some way by the BB before. I think we do need to look into this again as they would be superb to hear in full
