Default ...and the Cricket World Cup has begun...

a stunning opening ceremony in Cape Town last night saw the beginning of the first ever cricket world cup on african soil.
a very ethnic theme was applied to SA's very proud moment and a host of our countries top entertainers put on a magical show....

as for the games itself.....we've just started the first game...SA vs West Indies and the score is 4 for 1 wicket after 5 overs (sorry those who dont understand)West Indies betting first....

there'll be much controversy to come, what with Englands debacle whether to play their game against Zimbabwe or not....probably not...
Hopefully, cricket and the occassion of the world cup will not suffer as a result of the politics in sport....

as for who will win is anyones gamble but ofcourse...there's no guessing who i'll be supporting...

Mandela's boys in Green and Gold....go boys...

welcome to the cricket world cup 2003 - SOUTH AFRICA

Hi Reza am not a cricket fan but yes i saw the Opening Party on sky it was wicked i loved the animals mosaics they were smart. As for Zimbabwe am not sure why the cricket board chose that countrie for a venue as it has a lot of problems at the moment..and also its not just England thinking of not playing there Australia also have not decided yet..i think they are just waiting to see what England does...But i think its a shame that this has Happened.South Africa has Planned along time for this and it should be South Africa Getting all the Publicity for doing such a good job.

YEAH ROSSY....its somewhat dissapointing that a tourney of this nature and stuture can draw the wrong kinda attention...
some time back in a related post i said that england should play in zimbabwe but admittedly, i've learnt a few things since then and i now feel that there is a security risk.
Whilst this is SA's world cup, it was decided that a few games in zimbabwe and kenya will help the dveleopment and exposure to those nations as well as boost their tourism. Ofcourse those decisions were taken long before things deteriorated north of our border. it appears now that england will boycott their game in Harare and end up being fined and docked points......which does take the shine off of the tourney....
However out here in SA its cricket fever and we've no problems ...lets hope the politics are a thing of the past come next week and for the good of the game and the work we've all put into it out here, it ends up being a memorable world cup

yeah rache,

kallis and company have it all to play for...they need a massive 279 runs to win from just 49 overs.....
no team batting second has ever been able to get to that target on this pitch at Newlands......

Go Mandela's boys!!!

Should be interesting to what csore the Aussies can get. Last serries in Oz we were getting scores of around 300 each game, and the grounds in SA are smaller than Oz grounds.

Go Aussies
